Troubleshooting Tips for the U4-3 Error Message
1. Turn the machine off and let it sit 15 to 30 minutes, turn back on and try again.
2. Check your environment. I have a few customers that use these machines to print off packing list and labels in the shipping areas of their factories. When the temperatures outside rise to the 100 decree mark we often run into overheat errors. Most my customers run fans on these machines but in those extreme conditions even the strongest of fans have problems keeping them properly cooled.
3. Check the area around the machine. Make sure the fan vents on the sides of the machine aren’t blocked and the fans are working properly. Employees love to put pictures or notes on the sides of machines. Or they will lean books or binders against the side. I typically recommend a 4 to 6 inch clearance on all sides of the machine.
4. Remove the fusing assembly and check the thermistors. If one thermistor is dirty and the other is clean the dirty sensor can cause the machine to want to heat up the lamp. The clean sensor will then detect an overheat condition. I’ve also seen broken hot roller bushings cause similar issues. Number 4 is the thermistor sensors in the machine.
