Xerox 6125, 6130, and 6128MFP Imaging Unit Squeaks

Dealing with Imaging unit squeaks in the Xerox 6125,   6130, and 6128MFP

I’ve been getting more and more calls on these Xeorx  machines with squeaks coming from inside the machine. The squeaks being generated by these machines  are very loud and high-pitched. With so many moving parts inside these machines it can be overwhelming trying to figuire out what is causing the squeaks. 95% of the time I found it to be the imaging unit.Xerox 6128 Image Unit – 676K05360
Xerox 6125 interlock switch photoLike I said earlier, majority of the time I find it to be the imaging unit. But I also have seen the transfer  belt, pick assembly, and fuser  generate squeaks. So if you open the front door and depress the interlock switch shown above you can watch as the parts move and listen for the squeak. With the door open the transfer belt doesn’t move so that eliminates that problem.

Now I’ve taken the drum units a part to remove label goo and other problems so I’ve taken them all apart and tried lubricated them and cleaning everything to remove the squeaks but the few times I’ve done it, it always comes back after 20 to 50 prints. It seems that over time the cleaning blades generate the noise as they rub over the surface of the drum.

Most people I explain to them the problem and what’s causing it and let them decide what they want to do. Some find it annoying and what it replaced while others decide since it’s working OK they don’t need to replace it unless the noise gets worse or the image quality declines.

Caution Do not expose the drums on the Imaging Unit to light for more than 5 minutes. Cover the drums to avoid damage.
1. Open the Front Cover.
2. Rotate the four securing locks counter-clockwise.
Caution When removing the Imaging Unit, take particular care to neither drag nor drop the Imaging Unit on the Transfer Belt.
3. Grasp the left and right handles and pull the Imaging Unit straight forward until it is clear, then lift it out of the printer as shown. Take care to not touch the drums.

Just remember to take caution when removing so you don’t damage the transfer belt. Hopefully you have found that the squeaks are coming from the imaging unit and you now only have the choice of living with the noise or replacing the part.
