An additional identified issue with these pads is the fact they can become removed from the holder assembly. When this occurs, the paper hits the upper lip of the holder as it feeds through and causes the paper to jam up right beneath the roller assembly. Naturally, replacing of the separation pad is required as soon as such a thing happens. Some people believe the feed rollers are the problem because the pad gets lost in action and when they search inside they don’t notice so they don’t it should be there. Therefore they assume the feed roller. However, it’s usually just as simple as installing a new separation pad.

Brother MFC 8540DN cover ASSY, Document stopper Removal
1. Open the ADF cover ASSY. Release the two bosses to remove the ADF cover ASSY
from the ADF unit.
2. Release the two bosses to remove the document stopper from the ADF unit.
Brother MFC 8540DN separation holder ASSY Removal
1. Remove the taptite cup B M3x10 screw to remove the ADF separation holder ASSY
from the ADF unit.
