Print Unable 71 Message On The Brother MFC/DCP 9440, 9040, 9045, 9840

Troubleshooting advice for the Print Unable 71 Message on the Brother Models 9440, 9040, 9045, 9840

The Print Unable 71 Message means that the polygon motor in the laser scanner assembly did not reach the correct operating speed in “X” amount of seconds. Most times this happens as the machines age. The motor sits in a metal bushing and magnets drive the rotation. Over time the lubrication inside the bushings wears down or gets contaminated with dirt and debris. When this happens it takes longer for the motor to get up to speed and in some cases totally locks up the motor. Usually, you have some warning signs. Typically as the lubricant wears down the motor gets noisier. Sometimes the noise is like a cooling fan going out, some get a high pitch squeal, and other people complain that they sound like an airplane goes off. If you get the Print unable 71 message the best thing to do is turn the machine off then back on. Sometimes this fixes the problem and you will not see it again. Other times it will become a more frequent message as time progresses. If you get the noise and have more frequent error messages then I would recommend replacement of the laser scanner assembly.
