Brother 5440, 5450, 5470, 6180 Blurred Printing
Below you will find repair advice for the Brother 5440, 5450, 5470, 6180 Blurred Printing issue in these machines. Also, you will find a link to the replacement instructions and links to purchase a replacement fuser.
The saying goes that if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Well, Brother decided not to listen and redesigned the fusing unit in these machines and it has been nothing but problems. Brother was using a hot roller with a lamp to fuse the paper. In this new model they have changed to a fixing film and heating element.
The good news is that Brother has recently came out with a newer model that has a redesigned fuser. I recently worked on one for another problem and it had 25,000 prints on it and was holding up pretty well. I guess, only time will tell, but given the problems with these models, I find it hard to believe Brother didn’t spend a lot of time on making this new fuser works better than in this model.
Below is a sample from a machine I recently serviced. If you see this kind of print in your machine then it’s time for a new fuser.
Click on the link below for the replacement instructions, or if you decide it’s time to upgrade to a newer machine then look a little further down for the current Brother replacement models. I will add that other manufactures like HP has been using this type of fuser for quite some time now and they have had problems too. So this isn’t new that a manufacture would have some problems with this design change and make some adjustments to come out with a better designed piece of equipment.
