Diagnosing Canon MF6590 – MF6530 ADF Paper Jam Problems on Your Machine
There isn’t a lot to these ADF units. I rarely have too many problems with them. With that being said, given time they eventually with have to be serviced. In this article I’d like to talk about a few of the  Canon MF6590 – MF6530 ADF Paper Jam Problems I see and how to go about fixing them.
When I feel the need to replace the pick up roller, feed roller, and separation pad I replace these parts as a set. Rarely do I ever replace just one at a time. This is pretty standard in any machine. These parts typically have the same life rating so it only makes sense to replace them all at the same time.
I usually see three types of problems. The first problem is when the paper fails to feed into the unit. Most times this is just a result of the the paper pick tire being dirty or worn down. If the tire is just real dirty then I clean it off and go back on with life. However, if the machine gets lots of usage and the feed tire tread is worn off and the tire has a shine to it after cleaning then I will replace.
The second problem I see is that the pick up tire feeds the paper in an inch or two but the paper fails to feed the rest of the way in the ADF. This problem is usually a result the feed tire being worn down or dirty. Once again, I clean the feed tire and check the tread and for other signs of wear and replace if needed.
The third problem is multiple feeding in the ADF. This is when two or more pieces of paper feed through the ADF and the same time. This problem typically happens when the separation pad is worn down. Replace as needed.
Obviously there is a wide range of other situations that can cause paper jam problems in the unit. Debris can get stuck in the tight area to the left of the white reference plate or just to the right on the bottom of the ADF unit. Other rollers can cause issue. The list goes on but the  three that I listed  are the most common problems I’ve seen.
