Brother DCP – MFC 9010, 9120, and 9320 Fuser Error Reset Procedure

Fuser Error Reset Procedure for the  Brother DCP – MFC 9010, 9120, and 9320

If you have a Brother machine it’s pretty much given at one time or another your going to get a Fuser Error. Some are easy to figure out like the Fuser Error message, others aren’t always so simple. Most fuser errors start off with the simple fuser error message. When you turn the machine off then back on you might get the self diagnostic message or a print unable 78, 6a, 6b, and others. After several attempts to turn the machine off then back on you probably will come to the conclusion that you need further assistance. Now the first thing people think is to get a replacement fusing assembly, install it, and the problem will go away.

Brother DCP - MFC 9010, 9120, and 9320 Fuser Error Reset Procedure

Unfortunately, that is not always the case. On most Brother machines the Fuser Error messages can only be reset by entering Maintenance Mode and manually resetting the machine. About 80% to 90% of the time you get a fuser error message the message can be reset by manually resetting the unit. In other articles I’ll go more into the specific errors. I wrote this article to provide the reset instructions and provide a easy link to those more specific articles. Now if you follow the instructions below and still get a Fuser Error message then the next step is to replace the fusing unit. I’d say that 99% of fuser errors are either solved by the reset procedure or fusing assembly replacement.

Note : The Fuser Error Reset Procedure is for actual fusing assembly fault messages where the machine will no longer function. This reset procedure will not work on the Replace Fuser message as that is a life counter message.

 Fuser Error Reset Procedure

1. DCP Machines without numerical buttons – Press the Menu button, Press the Start/Black button, the press the Up arrow  buttons  4 times.

2. MFC Machines with numerical buttons – Press Menu, *, 2, 8, 6, 4

If done correctly the machine will beep, lights will blink, and the Display will read ” Maintenance “.

Warning, it might take a few tries to get into Maintenance mode. The buttons have to be pressed in a certain time frame. Also, don’t pay attention to the display as you press the buttons. You are entering a special service mode, not going through the menu structure.

3. Once in Maintenance Mode simply scroll to 99 or press the 9 button twice. The machine will exit out of maintenance mode and start the normal warm up procedure. Most times this simple procedure will remove Fuser error messages and get your machine back up in running.

Note : If you remove or replace a fusing unit and forget to plug in a connector and get a fuser error then plug the connector back in a still get the error. Don’t automatically think you received a bad part. Try the Fuser Error Reset Procedure first.
