Diagnostic Tips for the Drum Error Problem on the Brother HL – 4140, 4150, 4570
On previous models like the 9840 and 9440 series drum error problems are a pretty common. I haven’t had a call yet on these newer models but given the history of these drum units and people using third party or compatible toner cartridges I imagine in the next year or so we will start seeing more calls on them. Most times these errors can be solved by cleaning the corona wires and contacts inside the machine. Sometimes after cleaning the contacts and corona wire the drum counter will need to be reset to fix the problem. Again, I haven’t seen it on this model but on some Brother models people would get a drum error and replace the drum only to have the error again. After you reset the drum counter the machine goes to a read state and starts working as normal. Other times replacement of parts is needed.

1. Clean the Corona wires and electrical contacts. (Shown in the Pictures Below)
Cleaning Procedure :  Turn off the power switch. Unplug the printer from the AC power outlet, and leave the printer  for a few minutes. Then, wipe the electrodes above carefully with a dry lint-free cloth. Be  careful not to change the shapes of the electrodes.
