Diagnostic aids for the Condensation Message on the  Brother HL – 4140, 4150, 4570

Machines didn’t use to have a condensation message. Use to be, you turned the machine on and went to print and you wondered why half the print or parts of the print were faded. Next thing you knew, the more you printed the better the image got. Pretty much a condensation problem happens when you take a machine and transfer it from one extreme temperature to a room temperature environment. I typically see this on machines that sat in a customers vehicle or in a storage area for a period of time and then bring it in and turn it on right away.

Service Manual Advice

– Open the front and back covers and leave them for 30 minutes or more with the power ON.
After that, close the front and back covers and turn OFF and ON the power switch.

It’s always been my experience to let the machines sit for a longer time than what the service manual states. Some machine are more sensitive than others. If your bringing a machine in from an extreme temperature, whether it be hot or cold, especially cold, most manufactures recommend letting the machine sit for two to four hours to let all the internal components adjust to room temperature.

Service Manual Recommended Parts Replacement Order
1 Engine PCB failure – Replace the engine PCB assembly.
2 Main PCB failure – Replace the main PCB assembly.
3 Laser unit failure – Replace the laser unit.

I’ve never had to replace parts for this particular error but I probably would start with the laser scanner assembly if I had an error persist. I would take the cover off the unit and check the mirrors for possible dust and debris build up.
