On Brother machines when they get fuser errors the machine reports an error message on the control panel and stops working. They do this to allow the fusing unit proper time to cool down so when it restarts it doesn’t create unwanted damage to the fusing assembly and other parts of the machine. After 15 minutes you should be able to start the machine normally. Unfortunately, that is seldom the case. Most times the equipment will have to be manually reset in order for the machine to work properly again. Below is how to perform the Fuser Error message manual reset for the Brother models 9440, 9450, 9840, 9040, 9045.

If the manual reset does not work and the machine returns with a fuser error related message on the display then replacement of the fusing assembly is the next step.
Maintenance Mode Entrance Procedure
Press the Menu, Black Start buttons then the UP arrow button four times to make the machine enter the maintenance mode.
For people familiar with the old style of entering Maintenance Mode the option is still available. See the instructions below.
Press the Menu, *, 2, 8, 6 and 4 buttons in this sequence. Must be done in X amount of time so don’t take your time and read the control panel.
The machine beeps for one second and display will read Maintenance on the LCD, indicating that it is placed in the initial stage of the maintenance mode.
To manually reset the machine to see if it will clear a fuser error related message, press the 9 button twice and the machine will exit out of Maintenance Mode. If there wasn’t anything wrong with the fuser the machine will start its normal warm up procedure and start working properly. If it goes back into an error state then it’s time to reseat or replace the fusing assembly.
Note : Remember you probably will have to manually reset the error code again if this happens.
