Open Heat Error Cycle Power, Samsung ML-3560 / 3561 Printer Repair

Troubleshooting and Repair tips for the Open Heat Error with the Samsung ML-3560 Printer

What I’ve seen on a lot of the Xerox, Dell, and Samsung machines is a thermostat issue causing  an Open Heat Error  problem. I’m not saying that is the case all the time but it is something I would check out before I just replace the fusing assembly, Samsung ML-3560 Fusing Assembly, JC96-03406A . In this article I’ll discuss a few things to look for when you get the  open heat error and how to go about checking the thermostat to see if it can be fixed.

1. Remove the fuser  and check for continuity across the thermostat and fuser  hot roller. Also at the point, check the overall condition of the fuser. If the hot roller looks extremely worn, the gears are wearing out, or the pressure roller has wrinkles or tears in it, it might be time to replace the fusing assembly.

2. There is two thermostats on top of the unit. Test both thermostats. If one of those thermostats fails the continuity test that means that it has opened and failed to close back up. When the fusing assemblies temperature gets to high the thermostat opens up to shut off AC power to the fusing unit. When the unit cools back off it is supposed to close. A lot of time this fails to happen. If this does happen, I’ve been able to manually reset them by taking the thermostat out and using a can of air, hold it upside down and give the front of the thermostat a shot of extremely cold air. Most times I found this to reset the thermostat. After you have done this, test the thermostat for continuity, if it passes the reinstall it and test the fusing assembly again.

3. Check continuity across the hot roller and electrodes on the side. Due to the fact that the hot roller and electrodes are metal on metal contacts. You will get a build up of corrosion as electricity is put across the unit. Take an emery  board and remove any corrosion  build up and test again. If it passes now  then try the fuser  again. If it still fails then the next step is to replace the fuser to verify that isn’t the problem, then possible power supply and main board. Very rarely do you have to go that far.
