HP LaserJet  Pro 400 M401dn Series Printer Review, Brochure, and Specifications

The HP LaserJet  Pro 400 M401DN Printer is an odd-looking  machine with its new 3.5-inch (8.89 cm) color touchscreen but offers the same quality customers have learned to respect about their HP printers.  This machine offers the standard  35 page per minute print speeds, a 250 sheet tray, multipurpose tray, and USB and network port found in the M401  series. But it includes additional features like duplexing, addtional memory, and a walk up USB port.

With its optional  500 sheet tray capability this machine is a great printer for small to midsize office settings. It is rated to handle 750 to 3,000 prints a month making it usable for multiple people. Also, with its high  yield cartridge it will drive down the cost of prints compared to other printers like the P1000  and P2000  series HP machines. One thing that makes this machine stand out is its print quality. Most machines in this price range fail to make quality prints but this machine can handle the task. Not perfect like higher end models but pretty darn close. Probably the most unique feature about these machines is the HP ePrint, Air print, and wide variety of web features you can use on this machine. HP has decided to make integrating mobile technology one of its main selling points. So if you interested in this new technology and want a low-cost  machine to try to test it out this machine will work out great.

Possible Problems

Lots of people have complained that these machines are still quite noisy. Obviously, print speeds can be slowed down so its one of those things where you have to decide whats most important, speed or noise. Another issue is the print speed. Like all HP specs the 35 page per minute speeds only happen if you are printing off the simplest of files. Once you start getting into more complex software, larger files, and better quality prints your speeds will slow down. Finally the cost per page. With its high yield cartridge you get a better cost per page but it’s still a lot higher than larger models. So if your thinking about running this at its max of 3,000 prints a month you might want to consider a slightly larger model.
