HP LaserJet  P2035 Printer Review, Brochure, and Specifications

The  HP LaserJet  P2035 Printer  has been out for quite some time so I’m surprised HP has decided to keep it around for a little longer. My only guess is that they sold a lot and wanted to see if that would continue. Really about the only good thing with this model is that it is a workhorse. After the failures of the P2015  HP went back and started over with these newer models. So these machines don’t have the formatter issues that plagued the P2015  model and if your printing off plain paper these machines will last for a long time. Probably the best feature this machine has is that it still has the parallel interface for printing. People still use this and some old systems require this feature.

Now it’s time for the bad news.

1. HP’s bright new idea was to make different types of printers in the same model line like the P2035  and the P2055. Most people looked at the price and picked the cheaper of the two. One of the main differences is one takes a high yield cartridge and the other doesn’t. The P2035  doesn’t take the high yield cartridge and while HP says it gets around 2,000 prints on a cartridge most people find it only gets around 1,500. I can’t tell you the number of people who have told me they bought the wrong machine for the job. The machine works great but cost a lot to run.

2. No control panel. Once again, the P2055 offered a control panel so you could understand what was going on when it didn’t work. This machine has lights which can be hard to understand for end users and on the service side, for tech’s, the machine doesn’t have a secondary error code for fatal errors. It reports the error to the PC making it hard to troubleshoot this machine if it doesn’t work and the PC doesn’t report the error. Trust me.

3. HP with its newer  models have gone back to trying to make the machines less noisy.  As the speed of these machines have increased so has the noise. Lots of people have complained that these machines run noisier the usual. Newer machines have the quite mode feature but what most people don’t realize is that in this mode the machines slows down. So quieter means slower.

I gave this machine a review of 3 out of 5 stars because of the cartridge yield issues, noise problems, and all the complaints about envelopes and check feeding through the MP tray. Don’t get me wrong the print engine is a workhorse and built to last. So it is a good machine. I would purchase it if I was in a small office setting and was doing 10,000 to 20,000  of just plain letter paper  prints a year. Given those circumstance it should work several years before needing any major repair. Start trying to do extra things and heavier volume printing it’s not going to last.

We will be happy to hear your thoughts
