Error Code 19 – Replace Drum Message – Brother DCP and MFC 7460, 7860, 7065

Fixing the Error Code 19 Replace Drum Message on the Brother DCP and MFC 7460, 7860, 7065

I get a lot of calls in regards to the change drum soon message but not a lot with the Replace Drum message or the error code 19 but they should be handled the same way. About the only difference is that the replace drum message follows the change drum soon message. This means you really have run the drum unit to its full life or you just don’t ever reset the drum counter. Now if up to this point you images still appeared OK and if you open the front door and remove the cover  and you  don’t see a lot of toner floating around inside the  cavity you might want to consider just resetting the counter and going on with life. Now you might want to take the drum unit out and use the blue tab to clean the corona wires and if it looks bad inside the charge grid take it outside and blow the drum unit out. Just make sure you don’t touch or damage the drum  unit roller. I’m a big fan of just leaving the drums inside machines as long as they print good and the charge grid isn’t causing dust on drum or drum errors. Just remember at this time it’s probably in your best interest to purchase a new drum  so you have it ready when yours goes out.

Drum Counter Reset procedure
(1) Open the front cover.
(2) Press the Clear/Back button and “Replace Drum? / 1. Yes 2. No” appears on the LCD.
(3) Press the desired Button, close the front cover, and you should be good to go.

If you don’t install a new drum and you reset the counter and it doesn’t clear the message. Don’t just think resetting the counter will always clear the message. You might actually have a problem with the drum unit so make sure you replace the drum before you call for service because that’s the first thing a tech’s going to ask you.
