13.03.00 JAM IN TRAY 2 Error on the HP P4014 and P4015 LaserJet

What Can Cause the 13.03.00 Jam in Tray 2  Error in the HP laserJet  P4015  and P4014

The other day I was called out to work on a HP P4015  printer that was jamming in tray 2. After I discovered what was causing the  error I thought this would make an excellent topic to talk about on the site since I had never seen this particular  problem before. In this article I’ll talk about the 13.03.00 JAM IN TRAY 2 problem with the P4015  I was working on and explain how I went about troubleshooting the problem and repaired the machine to get it back up and running for my customer.

Troubleshooting the 13.03.00 JAM IN TRAY 2

Like I said before I was called out to work on a P4015  that was giving a 13.03.00 JAM IN TRAY 2 error. The customer informed me that because they had   the optional tray 3 installed they switched out rollers and the tray and the problem was still there. To double-check what they said I checked the feed rollers and switched the trays again and tried one from another machine that was next to it. Same result. Constantly got the same error. Next I removed the paper and checked to verify that the tray paper stop was aligned with the LTR mark on the bottom of the tray knowing how often I see these get pushed forward resulting in this issue. I also checked to make sure the paper was properly installed and not bend or curled up in the front of the tray which again can cause odd paper feed issues. After adjusting the tray stop because it was pushed forward to far and reinstalling the paper I tried again to only get the same 13.03.00 JAM IN TRAY 2 error.13.03.00 JAM IN TRAY 2 P4015 photo

Now it was time to get serious. I turned the machine around, removed the back dust cover, and told it to print a config  page so I could watch the pick up assembly in action. To my surprise the pick up assembly was working but the main pick up roller wasn’t rotating when it lowered to pull the paper through. After removing the pick up roller and separation  feed roller in the machine I noticed that the little white Idler gear between the pick up and feed/separation  roller had fallen out resulting in the pick up roller not being driven by anything. Now I will warn  anybody who sees this problem that there is a spring that pushes out on the gear and the gear is secured to the plastic shaft with I white plastic E clip. Unfortunately in my case the only thing I could find was the gear so I had to find a similar spring and right size E clip to put back on the machine. I seriously doubt any of those parts is orderable. If you don’t have them or don’t feel like messing with it, you will probably have to replace the whole pick up assembly.

Anyway that’s my fun experience with the 13.03.00 JAM IN TRAY 2 error. They had two of these machines right beside each other and somebody was loading paper in the one I wasn’t working on and they couldn’t get the paper to go in so I decided to help. I found that on that tray and the other 3 trays between the 2 machines all had the  tray paper stops pushed forward to far. could this have put too much stress on the pick up assembly   in the one and popped the gear off. I don’t know but it’s something to think about. I know  this is an odd problem but hopefully somebody will find the information in this article useful. If not for the problem I had, maybe for the paper being loaded incorrectly or the paper stop being pushed to far forward.
