Dark Image or Completely Black Print – Xerox Phaser 3150
Unfortunately, I’ve seen this problem more than once on these machines and I’ve seen two things cause  the black print or dark background  problem.
First is third-party, rebuilt, or defective toner cartridges. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve had problems with rebuilt xerox toners. For some reason they seem harder to rebuild than others so the quality is not as good as models like the HP. I always suggest the first thing to try when having image problems on these machines, or any machine for that matter, is to replace the toner cartridge and try a new one before calling in for service.

Second thing I’ve seen cause this problem is the HVPS Â board. More than once I’ve been stuck replacing the power supply board on these machines. For some reason the cheap Xerox and Samsung machines that use the same print engine have lots of board issues compared to other models. So if you replace the toner cartridge in this model and it doesn’t fix the machine the next thing I would try from experience is the HVPS. Below is what the service manual has to say in regards to the subject.
Problem
The printed image is dark or the page is entirely black.
Possible Cause
1. Charge voltage fault due to bad contact between the toner cartridge and printer contacts.
2. No charge voltage in the engine board.
3. VD0 signal on the main board is in a LOW state.
Actions to Take to Resolve the Black or Dark Background Problem
a. Clean the high voltage contact terminals.
b. Check the state of the connector between the main board and the HVPS.
c. Replace the HVPS.
d. Replace the laser unit.
e. Replace the main board.
