Xerox ColorQube 8570, 8870, 8580, 8880, 8700, 8900 Smudged Print
One thing that I’ve been seeing a lot of lately is smudged or smeared print on these machines. What I’ve been finding is that worn out wiper blades have been causing the Xerox ColorQube 8570, 8870, 8580, 8880, 8700, 8900 Smudged Print.
The wiper blades use to be on the maintenance kits in the older models so every time you replaced the kit you replaced the wiper. On the newer models the blade is inside the machine. The blade is glued to a a metal plate. Oil leaks down and starts breaking down the glue and eventually the blade starts to come off the plate. This leads to smudging and other various print quality problems.
With most these machines reaching the three year mark I’ve seen all sorts of issues related to wiper blade. Therefore, if your stuck troubleshooting print quality issues on this machine that is the first thing I would look at. Also, if your confused on what to do about a print quality problem and need to try something, I would go there first.
I’ve also seen it cause oil streaks, and in some cases improper oiling of the drum unit leading to ghosting problems.
