Additional Advice for the Ricoh, Lanier, Savin SP C250 , SP C252 SC542 Error Code Service

  1. Reset the error code. Sometimes these units just fail to get up to temperature in time. I’d say 75% of the time this step will solve your problem. My theory is that if it happens once or twice a year then its ok. If it happens a few times in a few weeks or months then you probably have a more serious issue going on that needs further troubleshooting.
  2. Check the power supply. For testing purposes, plug the unit straight into a wall outlet and make sure no other large power consuming devices are on the same circuit. No power strips and especially no battery backups.
  3. Make sure the room is at a normal temperature. If you have just moved the machine then make sure it sits for a few hours to adjust to room temperature.
  4. Remove the fusing unit and check the thermistors, clean if needed. On most machines the thermistor rides on the surface of the hot roller, so make sure that when it is installed it slightly touches the surface. Check the fuser lamp and thermal fuses for continuity.
  5. Check the connectors.
  6. Replace the fuser.
