HP LaserJet 5200 Processing stuck on Display
The other day I was called out to work on an HP LaserJet 5200 Processing stuck on the Display. Now, if it was an HP P4015 I would say you have a weak fuser. However, this machine was acting totally different than the P4015 scenario.
When I got onsite the machine had the Processing message on the Display and wasn’t doing anything else.
- I disconnected it from the network and rebooted the machine. It went to a ready state but once I told it to print a config page it came up and said printing configuration page and did nothing.
- At this point I rebooted the machine, disabled the embedding jetdirect, removed any additional memory, removed the duplexer, and secondary feed tray. In other words I removed all the accessories. Tried again and got the same message.
- Removed the toner to see what the machine would do. Nothing. It didn’t even realize I pulled it out?
- I tried printing an engine test from the DC controller and nothing. Removed the formatter and tried again, nothing.
- At this point I was thinking board = LVPS, HVPS or DC Controller
- Lucky for me they customer has many of these machines so I was able to swap out a DC controller from a parts machine and the thing came up and started running.
- Note : Another thing that I noticed was the machine only went through half the warm up cycle before going to a ready state. Once I had a working DC controller in the warm up cycle took twice as long.
Hope this helps anybody who runs into this problem like I did. Obviously not all problems are the same but if you follow the steps above it should point you in the right direction.
