HP Color CM3530 50.7 Fuser Error – Pressure Release Problems

Technical Advice for the HP Color CM3530 50.7 Fuser Error – Pressure Release Problems

The  HP Color CM3530 50.7 Fuser Error is related to the pressure release mechanism. The pressure release was added to most higher end machines in the last few years. If you have any experience with dealing with older high volume machines you have run into machines making thumping noises in the fuser as the pressure roller  has become  flat spotted. The pressure release mech. was added to reduce the occurance of flat spots. When the machine is a resting state there is a cam in the fuser that separates the hot roller or heating element off the pressure roller. Due to the amount of pressure needed in the fuser this is a hard task. Therefore, it is prone to having problems over time. Below find some service manual troubleshooting tips, how to run the sensor test for the pressure release sensor, and some advice of my own on this type of error.

The fuser has experienced a pressure  release mechanism error.
Service Manual Technical Advice for the 50.7 Fuser Error
1. Reconnect the connectors (J117, J123)  on the DC controller PCA.
2. Run the sensor test to test the fuser  pressure-release sensor (H) SR7.
2a. Touch Administration.
2b. Scroll to and touch Troubleshooting.
2c. Scroll to and touch Manual Sensor Test.
2d. Scroll to H fuser (fixing) pressure-release sensor
2e. Open the right door.
2f. Lower the secondary transfer assembly.
2g. Remove the fuser, and then rotate the gear to move the flag. If the flag does not actuate, replace the fuser.

2h. Insert a piece of paper to activate the fuser (fixing) pressure-release sensor.

2i. Check the control-panel display for sensor response.

2j. If there is no response, replace fuser (fixing) pressure-release sensor.

The service manual is confusing at this point. It says in step 3. Replace the fuser if the sensor is defective. However, the sensor is inside the machine and under the pressure release sensor test it says to replace the sensor if it test defective. Therefore, I would replace the sensor if it test defective not the fuser.

Additional Repair Advice

I haven’t run into a whole lot of problems with this machine like I have on others. I understand the logic behind the pressure release mechanisms because it saves you from hearing the thumping sound coming from you color machines. However, they tend to fail and not work right. On some models the gears break down over time. Other models the pressure becomes to great and they don’t actuate right. In most cases, age is the biggest factor with this problem. On machines where you run larger volumes and use OEM fusers you probably won’t run into this issue. On machines where you use rebuilt fusers or the fusers get left in the machine for 3 or more years then you probably will run into this problem. Lots of times you can hear the mechanism moving harder than it should or in some cases, moving when it shouldn’t.

Also, if you have to fuser out of the machine and mess with the pressure release gears and install back in the machine, you might run into this error. If you run into this error after having the fuser out to remove a jam or something, I would turn it off once or twice. Sometimes it doesn’t find home position right away but after a few power cycles it gets aligned and works.

If you see this error once or twice in a year I wouldn’t get to upset. If you see it a few times in a few months period then I would start to think about replacing the fusing assembly. Below you will find find a link to the instructions for the fuser replacement and an additional link to order in a replacement fuser if that is what you decide is needed.
