Repair Tips for the  Canon MF6590 – MF6530 Paper Delivery Roller  Problems

In this article I’d like to talk about a specific  Canon MF6590 – MF6530 Paper Delivery Roller Problem. Lots of times paper jam problems in the fixing assembly are a result of paper being stuck in the fixing assembly. Paper is hard to get out of this unit so many people pull on the paper, it rips, and some of the paper is left in the unit. Either the paper gets stuck on the exit flag and you always get a jam message or the paper gets stuck somewhere else and when the next sheet of paper feeds through it gets caught on the paper debris and you can never get your paper to properly exit the machine. You just get a jam, clear the jam, and get a jam again. REPEAT.

There is yet another problem in this area that I’d like to talk about. The delivery roller sits on top of the fixing unit or slightly to the rear of the unit. The gear for the roller is on the other side of the rear frame. If too much force is put on this roller then you can snap the shaft where the roller meshes with the gear. The gear just kind of sits on the shaft and the shaft is really narrow at this point so it is more fragile than what you think. Now I believe the roller is part of the fixing unit but it can be ordered separately. This can save you lots of money if the fixing unit is in good shape and you just need to get the replacement delivery roller. I know I have ordered just the roller on a few occasions to save some money in repair cost when the whole unit isn’t needed. Typically the gear does not need to be replaced. You just might need to get the broken shaft out from inside the gear post.

Click on the link below for fixing unit removal instructions which shows the fixing gear being removed from the back of the machine along with rest of the unit which will need to be out to replace the delivery roller. The service manual doesn’t get into details about removing the delivery roller and it has been a while since I’ve done one. From what I remember if you have gotten that far then replacing the roller is a walk in the park compared to what you already did.
