Diagnostic Tips for the Samsung SCX-4016, 4116, 4216F Open Heat Error
The  Samsung SCX-4016, 4116, 4216F Open Heat Error means that AC power is no longer running through the fusing assembly. These machines love to overheat. When they overheat and you turn the machine off then back on, often times you get the  Samsung SCX-4016, 4116, 4216F Open Heat Error. I like these machines and don’t mind replacing this part as it doesn’t cost too much. On the other hand, I know they aren’t that expensive to replace. Troubleshooting the Samsung SCX-4016, 4116, 4216F Open Heat Error
1. Turn the machine off then back on.
2. Remove the rear cover and check the AC power connector, reseat.
3. Remove the fusing assembly and using a volt meter check continuity across the heater lamp and thermostat, shown in picture above. If the lamp is blown then replace the fusing assembly.
4. If the thermostat is open then take it out and turn it right side up. If it has a new style thermostat then it can be manually reset. To manually reset the thermostat, take a can of compress air, hold it upside down, and give the surface of the thermostat a blast of extremely cold air. Check the thermostat again for continuity. If the thermostat now has continuity then wipe off any access dampness and install it back in the fusing unit. Remove the thermistor and clean the surface. Dirty thermistor surfaces can cause overheat issues which leads to Open Heat Errors. Reinstall the thermistor making sure the thermistor surface is touching the surface of the hot roller for optimal temperature sensing. Install the fusing unit back in the machine and test. If the unit still fails or you are unable to get continuity through the thermostat then replace the Samsung SCX-4016, 4116, 4216F Fuser (Fixing) Unit.
