Dell 1815dn Over Heat Call Service Error Message Repair Advice

Troubleshooting Tips for the Dell 1815dn Over Heat Call Service Error

Inside the fusing unit is a device called a thermistor. The thermistor rides on top of the hot roller. If the temperature on the hot roller reaches an extreme high temperature for a specified time then the machine will report a Dell 1815dn over heat message and shut off AC power to the fusing unit to prevent unwanted damage. When this happens either the machine will cool down and print again or if the thermostat opens the you will get an Open heat message. If you get the open heat message then follow the instructions for the open heat message as they differ from the tips below.

Repair Solutions for the Dell 1815dn Over Heat Issue

1. Turn the machine off and let it sit 15 to 30 minutes then turn back on and try again.

2. Verify you have plenty of ventilation around the machine. I recommend 4 to 6 inches on all sides. Make sure the fans are moving and nothing is blocking the vents on the sides of the machine.

3. Make sure you are running the machine in appropriate environment conditions. I don’t recommend running them over temperatures of 80 to 85 °F.

4. Heavy card stock or labels can cause this issue. If you are running large volumes of these paper types then break the job up into smaller jobs and allow for cooling time between jobs.

5. Remove the fusing assembly and clean off the thermistor and check the fuser for wear and tear. If the gears are broken or not moving then this can cause an over heat error.

6. Replace the fusing assembly. See the instructions below.

Following this article is a few machines that I recommend to my customers. If you want to check out more look under the new machines tab at the top of the page. Also, below, you will find that I have the fuser sold separately and the PM kit which includes the fuser and several feed rollers. If you plan on using this machine for a few more years it might not hurt to replace these parts. The fuser is rated at 80,000 prints while some of the other PM parts are rated at around 150,000 prints and copies.
