Xerox Phaser Printer 3600 Fuser Failure – Open Heat Troubleshooting

Repair Advice and Troubleshooting Tips for the 3600 Fuser Failure

As I’ve stated in other articles related to Xerox machines the open heat error is probably the most common fuser error I get called out on for these machines. The Xerox Phaser 3600 Fuser Failure error message is also an open heat error related message.

The open heat message means that AC power is not going through the fusing assembly. Typically the fusing unit over heats and one of the thermostats, shown in the picture above, open up. The thermostats open when they over heat to prevent damage to the fuser and possible fire. When the cool back down they are suppose to close. Often times they fail to close. So most times you get a High Heat or Over heat error that is followed by a Fuser Failure once the machine is turned off then back on.

Repair Advice for the Phaser 3600 Fuser Failure

The best thing to do is to remove the fusing assembly from the back of the unit and check continuity across the thermostats. If you don’t have continuity then check them individually. If you do have continuity then check the lamps for continuity. If they fail then replace the fusing assembly. If one or both of the thermostats fail then remove them from the fusing assembly. The best way that I’ve found to close them is to take a can of air and hold it upside down then give a shot of extremely cold air on the part of the thermostat that was facing the hot roller. The metal leaf plate should pop back out and when you test for continuity again it should be restored. Re-install the fusing assembly and turn the machine back on.
