Tips For the Fuser Error Code Reset on the Brother HL – 4140, 4150, 4570 Series

Use to be that Brother told you to wait 15 minutes and turn the machine back on and the fuser error code reset would happen. Unfortunately, that really never happened. Now those of us in the field quickly learned that by going into Maintenance Mode and manually resetting the machine would get the same result without waiting forever. In the last few years Brother has updated their service manuals to include this tip. Below is the reset information for fuser errors.

Note : This Procedure does not reset the Replace Fuser Message – This procedure is to fix fuser errors that result in the machine failing to function.

Fuser Error Code Reset Procedure

Warning : If you attempt to reset a fuser error when the fusing assembly is still hot you can cause additional damage to the fusing unit. Wait several minutes to allow the unit to cool down before attempting the fuser error code reset procedure.

1. Press the OK button and then the Go button. Next,  press the UP button four times to enter the Maintenance Mode.
2. The printer displays will read “Maintenance” on the LCD, indicating that it is placed in the initial state of the Maintenance Mode.
3. Press the UP arrow  or DOWN arrow  button to display the function that you require. For the case of trying to clear a Fuser Error code, scroll to the 99 function to exit out of Maintenance Mode.  For some reason this allows the machine to reset and start the normal warm up procedure. 95% of Fuser Errors will be resolved by performing this step. The other 5% of the time, replacing the fusing assembly will be the solution.
4. Then press the OK button.

Note : To enter Maintenance Mode the buttons have to be presses with two seconds of each other. End users often call me a say they can’t get into Maintenance mode the go on to describe to me what the machine says after they press each button. This is like your old Nintendo or PlayStation. You are entering a secret code so it doesn’t matter what the screen says while pressing the buttons. The main thing is that after it is all said and done the display should read Maintenance.
