Repair Information for the Print Unable 78 Message on the Brother DCP / MFC 9440, 9040, 9045, 9840
The Print Unable 78 Message is due to a rapid decrease in temperature read across the center thermistor in the fusing assembly. Â Most times I see this when the equipment has had a sudden lost of power. When the power is suddenly interrupted the machine attempts to read the fusing assembly temperature and gets a false reading. I even had someone call me a few weeks ago that attempted to clean their machine with the power on. When they used canned air to blow out the fuser the machine reported this error. Typically, these errors can be fixed without replacement of the fusing assembly. In order to restore the machine to working order you usually have to manually reset the error code through maintenance mode. Follow the instructions below to help troubleshoot the problem and if needed click on the Reset Procedure link to reset the machine. 99% of the time this fixes the problem. Troubleshooting Advice for the Print Unable 78 Message
1. Turn the machine off then back on. If continues then turn off the machine, unplug it from the wall outlet and let it sit 15 to 30 minutes then plug back in.
2. Check the power source. Make sure it’s plugged into a wall outlet and not on a battery back up or power strip with other devices.
3. Check the environment and make sure that the machine has plenty of ventilation and the room temperature is within operating specifications.
4. Perform manual reset in Maintenance Mode.
