Repair tips for the Open Heat Error Message on the Samsung SCX – 4824 / 4828
The open heat error message is generally caused by AC power not completing the circuit through the fusing assembly. The best thing to do is unplug the machine and let it sit 30 to 60 minutes. These machines have thermal fuses in them called thermostats. If these parts get to hot they open up. In some cases they don’t close the way they should after they cool down so you have to remove the fusing assembly, take out the thermostat and reset it.
Troubleshooting tips
1. Turn off, unplug, let sit 30 to 60 minutes then try again
2. Remove the fuser and check for continuity between the thermostats. See picture below for location on top of fusing assembly. Â The Picture shows one but I believe this machine has two. If they are correct they should have continuity across the leads.
3. If one or both thermostats don’t have continuity remove them.
4. Flip them over. Using a can of air, hold it up side down and give them a shot of freezing air. If done correctly you should here it pop back in place and now it should have continuity from lead to lead.
If one is open and one is closed then you can tell the difference by pressing on the metal in the middle of them. The open one will not move but the closed one will pop in and is now open, testing it now will show it no longer has continuity.
