Print Unable 6A – Brother DCP-8080, 8085 and MFC-8480 / 8890

Diagnostic Tips for Fixing the Print Unable 6A Message on the Brother 8480 and 8890

The Print Unable 6A error is caused by the center thermistor not reaching 60 C or 140 F. Whichever you prefer. Most fusers run around 325 to 375 depending on the paper type feeding through the machine. The machine measure the temperature as it warms up. Failure to reach certain temperatures after X amount of time causes error messages. In this article, I will give a few repair tips along with manual reset instructions, and fusing assembly replacement instructions if needed.

Repair Tips for the Print Unable 6A Message

1. Turn the machine off, unplug, wait 15 to 30 minutes, plug back in, turn on.
2. Check the power source. Plug the machine straight into a wall outlet. No power strips and battery backups. A weak power source can cause a power struggle between devices that use lots of power.
3. Remove fuser and check for debris on thermistor
4. Preform Reset Procedure
5. Replace Fusing Assembly

Manual Reset Procedure

A lot of times to reset fuser errors on these machines  you need to manually reset them in Maintenance  mode. There are two ways to enter  Maintenance Mode. First, and easiest, hold down the  Menu  button then turn the machine on while holding down. Once the display reads  Maintenance  press  ( 9, 9 )  and the machine will reset. Second,  Enter Maintenance Mode by pressing : Menu,*,2,8,6,4  Must be done in a certain amount of time, it might take a time or two to get it into service mode. If done correctly the  lights on the control  panel will blink and the display will read Maintenance. Next, press : 9,9 The machine will then exit out of Maintenance Mode and go through its normal warm up procedure. Majority of the time this will fix fuser errors like the Print Unable 6A  Message. If it doesn’t then the next step would be to replace the fusing assembly.
