Repeating Defect Measurement Chart for the Xerox Phaser 6180N  /  MFP

The main problems resulting in a repeating defect in these machine that I see is poor toner cartridges. Because of the cost of OEM toner cartridges on these machines a lot of people choose to use third-party  or rebuilt toner cartridges because they are a third of the cost of OEM toners. I can’t tell you the number of calls I’ve received on this model for print quality issues related to bad cartridges. First thing I always recommend or ask is if the customer is using OEM cartridges and if not to replace them.Xerox Phaser 6180 repeating defect

Troubleshooting a Repeating Defect

When horizontal lines and/or spot occur periodically, it is possibly caused by the trouble of particular roller. Measure the trouble interval on the test print, and check the relation to the Roller in the table. The interval does not necessary match circumference of the Roller.

Conclusion
Hopefully by using the chart and instructions above you were able to figure  out the cause of your problems.  Several of the parts like the OPC  drums and transfer belts are touch sensitive so if you have spots on them and try to clean them be warned  if not carefull you can damage them permanently. Also the fuser gets extremely hot so if you decide to take it apart or clean it  let the machine cool quite some time before touching.
