Low Temp. 50.1 Fuser Error HP Laserjet P4014, P4015, P4510 Printer

The 50.1 fuser error in the HP laserjet  P4014, P4015, and P4510 printers is a low temperature error. The 50.1 fuser error is one of the most common fuser errors found in HP machines due to the fact there are so many factors that can cause the problem. In this article I’d like to share a few of the situations that can cause this error and walk you through replacement of the fusing assembly if needed.

Troubleshooting the 50.1 Fuser  Error in the HP Laserjet  P4014, P4015, and P4510 Printers HP laserjet P4015, P4014, P4510 50.1 fuser error photo

First thing to try to resolve the 50.1 fuser error is just power off and back on the machine. Sometimes just out of the blue the fuser  just doesn’t get up to temperature in time. Just resetting the machine might give it the extra time it needs to get up to the correct temperature. Second is to check the power source. These machines need to have their own power source. With all the modern technology often there is not enough power sources so they use power strips or battery backups. These machines need to be plugged straight into a wall outlet without any other heaters or large devices on the same circuit. So no power strips and especially no battery backups. Third is to unplug and let the machine set for 20 to 30 minutes. This  causes the machine to cool down and restart at a cold state. Sometimes this allows error messages to clear out of the system and the machine takes longer to warm up and initialize  from a cold state so it might have time to get up to a correct operating temperature. Fourth is to reseat  the fuser  and fifth is to replace the fuser for the 50.1 fuser error.

You will notice two of the steps ask to make sure it’s the right model and voltage. I don’t believe these machines have another series that crossover to it like the 4200 and 4250 series which the fusers  look-alike and fit in both machines but don’t work. However, they do have a 120v  and 220v  model depending on the country so you can accidentally order or be shipped the wrong  part. Putting a 220v  fuser  in a 120v  machine could give you a 50.1 fuser error because it doesn’t have enough juice to heat up a 220v heating element.

What the HP Service Manual Has to Say about the 50.1 Fuser Error in the HP Laserjet  P4014, P4015, P4510 Printer
1. Power cycle the product to determine if the error is persistent.
2. Verify that the correct fuser model is installed in the product.
3. Verify that the correct voltage fuser is installed in the product.
4. Verify that the fusing assembly is firmly seated in the product chassis. Reseat the fusing the assembly, and listen for a “click” at the end of the assembly when you insert it into the product.
5. Verify that the connection to connector J82 on the DC controller PCA is firmly seated.
6. Inspect the fusing assembly connectors, at the front of the assembly, and the connectors on the high-voltage power supply PCA. Look for bent pins or debris. Clean or straighten the pins if necessary.
7. If the error persists, replace the fusing assembly.
8. If the error still persists, replace the high voltage power supply.

Fuser Removal Procedure for the HP laserjet  P4014, P4015, and P4510 printers
Wait 5 to 10 minutes Before Removing the Fuser to allow it to cool down and make sure you unplug the machine.
Rear output bin
1. Open the rear output bin.
2. Squeeze the hinge pin out of its mounting hole.
3. Rotate the output bin away from the product until the right hinge pin is released, and then remove
the output bin
Fuser
1. Remove the rear output bin.
2. Squeeze the blue fuser-release tabs.
3. Pull the fuser straight back and out of the product.
CAUTION: Do not drop or jar the fuser. It can easily be damaged if it is mishandled.
TIP: When you replace the fuser, make sure that it is fully seated into the product. You should
hear both sides snap into place.

Conclusion about the 50.1 Fuser Error in the HP Laserjet  P4014, P4015, and P4510 Printer

Alright that’s it. Really, 99% percent of the time when you get the 50.1 fuser  error, unless your real lucky, you probably will be replacing the fuser. However, the tips above might save you from purchasing them more often. Under powering your machine can really strain it and wear parts out prematurely. I just replaced a power supply in a plotter that  was plugged into a battery backup and I’ve seen battery backups go bad from laser  or solid ink machines plugged into them. So while the tips might not fix your 50.1 fuser error they should be applied  if not already.
