Why Brother Multifunction Printer, Copier, Fax, Scanners?

Brother Multifunction Printer – Copier, Fax, Scanners

People always ask me why I sell Brother multifunction printer equipment and not HP. For myself the benefits are obvious. For the everyday end-user consumer it’s more complicated because they are always flooded with HP commercials and the HP name is embedded in the back of everybodies mind when they think of a high quality product. While I still believe HP makes the best printers out there, they have really fallen short when it comes to making a cheap, affordable, long-lasting machines like the monochrome Brother multifunction printer. In this article I’ll discuss why I prefer Brother multifunction printer equipment and why maybe more consumers should take another look at Brother before purchasing their next multifunction machine

Why I changed to Brother Multifunction Printer Equipment

Back in 1998 HP came out with the HP 3100 multifunction machine that in my opinion was one of the best multifunction machines ever made. A few years later they came out with the updated 3200 model which was plagued with firmware issues. While I still service several HP 3100 machines, within 5 years the 3200 series were mainly found in landfills. HP multifunction machines have never recovered because of the fact they take their smallest print engine and put a copier module on top of it and mark it up $300. For all you HP loyalist, yes HP does make some good quality multifunction machines like the 4345, and 4730MFP to name a few. However, for the average small to midsize business they are well outside of their price range. Even their small multifunction machines are rather expensive compared to a Brother multifunction printer. Plus HP multifunction printers are still plagued with main board issues. I always ask customers when servicing equipment what they think of their machines and majority of HP multifunction owners say they will be switching brands when it comes to making their next purchase.

After selling a lot of HP 3200 multifunction machines and having angry customers calling me because in their eyes I sold them junk, I had to find an alternative manufacture for my multifunction machine market. We had been using a Brother fax machine in the store for years under heavy usage and it had always performed well. We called Brother, found out becoming an ASP was rather inexpensive, so next thing I knew I was traveling down to Tennessee for Brother Training. At training we were introduced to the new Brother multifunction printer the 4750. I instantly fell in love with the design. Consumers obviously have too because the 4750e is still in production today. I don’t know the dates but this machine has been produced for almost 10 years now by my estimates. Unlike HP, Brother takes their top of the line models and puts copier modules on top of them and adjust the price accordingly. Instead of having an over priced multifunction machine not capable of handling midsize work loads you have a very affordable multifunction machine able to handle midsize work loads.

Print Engine Features That make Brother Multifunction Printer Equipment Stand out.

Other nice features with Brother multifunction printer equipment is how it’s built. HP fusers now all use the film technology. The wrong thing gets into your fuser  and the film is torn leaving horrible print issues. Brother still uses the old hot roller, lamp method. The fusers  last longer and oops I accidentally  fed a staple through the machine. No problem, it might nick the metal surface of the hot roller but it won’t tear the fuser  film making it non-workable. I serviced a Brother 4100e  that had 213,000 prints on it yesterday that had never been serviced before and the fuser was still great and the pick up roller was still good. You will never see an HP get that kind of usage unless you spend a $1000 or more. Another thing is the cost of the parts. Yes Brother parts are harder to come by but they are really affordable and Brother breaks down a lot of the machine to individual parts so you’re not stuck replacing whole units for just one part. Last thing is the drum units. HP puts the drum inside the toner cartridge so every time you replace the toner you replace the drum making the unit cost more. Brother has a separate drum and toner cartridge making purchasing toner cheaper. Brother drums tend to last longer than their 20,000 prints. While the machine will display a change drum soon message it never quits working. I’ve had customers get 40,000 to 50,000 prints on a drum unit before replacing it.

Conclusion about Brother Multifunction Printer Equipment.

I could go on about the benefits  of Brother multifunction  but I’ll leave the rest up to you. Just check around before you buy at the different review sites and see what others have to say. I know, I’ve checked and they all say about the same thing. Brother is  producing some great machines  in this market catagory. Three machines that I really think offer the bang for your buck are the Brother MFC 8480DN, DCP  8085, and the MFC 8890.  I’ve sold lots of these machines. Some get heavy usage others not  so much, but all my customers can agree that this is one of the best machines they have bought.
